The month of May delivers another batch of amazing singles that either shine lyrically or melodically. The summer is right around the corner and artists like Anderson .Paak and Beyoncé release new music as they perform on their world tours. Russ, Billy Woods, and J. Cole all use their incredible rapping skills on some well-produced beats.
With that being said, here are the best songs of May 2023. This list contains many mainstream and independent placements from artists who either dropped great albums during the month or that are preparing to do so soon. NxWorries, the duo composed of Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge, is back with an amazing single before they kick off their summer tour together. Featuring a beautiful guitar solo and a catchy refrain by the California artist, “Daydreaming” is the perfect song to roll the windows down and enjoy a sunny ride.

Russ – Perfectionist
Off the Atlanta artist’s “Chomp 2.5” EP, the final track “Perfectionist” is the perfect example of a rapper finding his match with a beautiful instrumental. Produced by 9th Wonder, the beat is grandiose and lavish, giving Russ plenty of room for deep introspection.

Beyoncé & Kendrick Lamar – AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM
Released as a remix off her 2022 track on her very popular album “RENAISSANCE”, the song now features a very complex verse by Kendrick Lamar at the beginning. He touches on a wide variety of topics, and he switches flows easily over the modern electronic beat. His talent is on full display, pouring an incredible amount of energy to an already good song.

With the help of Danny Brown, Billy Woods creates an atmospheric song that blurs the line between violence and chaos. The instrumental and the lyrics are disturbing but contagious, showing that the Backwoodz Studioz leader is not afraid to experiment on this Kenny Segal collaborative album.

Lil Durk – All My Life (ft. J. Cole)
Released as a lead single for his upcoming album “Almost Healed”, the Chicago artist recruits J. Cole for a solid collaboration that leans towards inspiring hope for the youth. Lil Durk is lyrically weaker than the Dreamville rapper, but his melodic delivery and natural charisma prevent him from being totally overshadowed by the impressive verse of J. Cole.

The Pro Era artist seems to be readying up for the release of a new project. “All Around” marks the third single released in 2 months after “Rap Fix” and “JET-LAGGED”. With the help of fellow Beast Coast rapper Erick the Architect, Nyck Caution creates a slow and touching song about life and all its fast-paced elements.
