The new music releases of April 2023 brought the best songs of the year so far. Some veterans like Drake, Joey Bada$$ and The Weeknd dropped some amazing songs that lean on their strengths. Underground rappers like Sylvan LaCue, Jay Worthy and Profound artists all released quality singles that add to their already vast catalogues.
With that being said, here are the best songs of April 2023. This list contains many mainstream and independent placements from artists who either dropped great albums during the month or that are preparing to do so soon. Joey Bada$$ - Fallin'
For his first single of the year, Joey Bada$$ releases the incredible ballad “Fallin” that features an amazing vocal performance by the New York artist. Produced by Pro Era’s Chuck Strangers and Powers Pleasant with additional production credits going to DJ Khalil, the smooth strings and moody bassline create the perfect soundtrack for Joey to romantically sing about what he wants to do with his lover.

Drake - Search & Rescue
The OVO boss is back with his first single of the year following a productive run last year. He returns to his very comfortable comfort zone as he raps and sings over the bass-heavy production. The beat aims to set the mood with a simple piano loop and amazing trap drums produced by 40 and SADPONY.

KAYTRAMINÉ, Aminé & KAYTRANADA - 4EVA (feat. Pharrell Williams)
The Montreal producer and the Portland rapper join forces to create the duo KAYTRAMINÉ. As Kaytranada’s heavy kicks meet Aminé’s slick delivery, the result is exactly what you would expect and so much more. With Pharrell taking care of the hook, the formula is simple and contagious. It’s a super summer song that may hint at more collaborations between the two main artists.

The Weeknd – Double Fantasy (feat. Future)
Heading toward the release of his controversial new HBO series “The Idol”, The Weeknd releases this beautiful trap ballad in collaboration with Future. Opening with a saxophone solo and spacy synths from Mike Dean, the song then builds momentum with a great vocal performance from the Canadian artist and an intoxicating beat from Metro Boomin.

Saba & NO I.D. – Back In Office
The Chicago artist is back with the legendary producer NO I.D. for a simple and efficient single. “Back In Office” sees Saba step back into a braggadocious mood as he challenges his rap peers to get to his level. Lyrically on point and dripping with charisma, the Pivot Gang leader can’t stop rapping over NO I.D.’s guitar loop and boom-bap drums.

Sylvan LaCue is finally back after a 2-year break since his “Young Sylvan” EP series was released. The Florida artist is in rare form as he collaborates with Xavier Omär for an intelligent song about our motivations and distractions. Running at nearly 5 minutes, the song really nails everything from the high-quality instrumental to the great vocal deliveries from both artists.

The Buffalo artist cannot be stopped since the beginning of the year. He’s pushing hard on his independent label Drumwork Music, and he continues to release quality solo tracks like “Quarters”. The video is also amazing, adding some cool visuals to this easy track that sees Conway rap with a nonchalant attitude over a Khrysis instrumental.
