Top 10 song releases - September 2022

By Philippe Martin 02/10/2022

2022 keeps on getting better as many artists are blessing us with great singles worth discovering. With three placements on this list, TDE is having an incredible run as they release quality music with SiR, REASON, and Ab-Soul. More eyes are turning on Che Noir as she keeps on creating beautiful hip-hop tracks and somehow keeps on getting better with time. It’s also Smino Season soon, so he sets the bar high with the help of J. Cole. With that being said, here are the best songs of August 2022.

This list contains many independent placements from artists that either dropped great albums during the month or that are preparing to do so in a near future. Let us know in the comments what you think about these and if any other singles deserved to make this list.

Smino & J. Cole - 90 Proof

Planning the release of his next studio album “Luv 4 Rent”, Smino teases the project with the excellent single “90 Proof” featuring one of music’s finest acts, J. Cole. The St-Louis native uses his ability to switch up his vocal pitch to sound distinctive as ever. He creates a catchy melodic hook on a boom-bap instrumental, using background vocals and amplified effects on his voice. J. Cole has a skillful verse in the second half of the song, where he reminds everybody of his respected status within the music industry.

Big-Sean-Detroit

Big Sean - More Thoughts (2019)

With the arrival on streaming services of his stand-out 2012 mixtape “Detroit”, Big Sean included an unreleased song to bless his fans. “More Thoughts (2019)” is a Key Wane produced track that finds the Detroit artist showing his growth 7 years after the project was released on Datpiff. He sounds more mature and comfortable with his position in the rap game, talking about difficult relationships and developing business ventures with his idols.

G Herbo - Blues (feat. Future)

Promoting his new album “Survivors Remorse”, G Herbo releases the single “Blues”, an easy trap song in collaboration with Future. Produced by ATL Jacob, this song fits very well in any rap party playlist, as the beat is uplifting and will put you in the mood to get big bags of money to make your haters mad. The different voices from the Chicago rapper and the Atlanta trapper make for a nice complimentary performance.

Che Noir - Wash the Dishes (feat. Benny the Butcher)

The Buffalo artist Che Noir is not getting the attention she rightfully deserves. She crafts incredible and classic-sounding hip-hop records, with “Wash the Dishes” being a prime example of the efficient output she can do behind the boards or in the booth. Frequent collaborator Benny the Butcher makes a solid guest appearance here with a home-run verse that could easily steal the show, but it’s Che that shines the brightest with her cold bars and calm delivery.

cordaehitboy

Cordae & Hit-Boy - Checkmate

The new single from Cordae and Hit-Boy is part of the Madden NFL 23 game soundtrack, and it fits very well in that role. It’s a simple hip-hop song featuring some uncomplicated lyrics meant to boost your confidence and take home the win against the enemy team. With another prolific year in 2022, Hit-Boy continues to deliver quality beats with “Checkmate” being another example of how easy he makes it look.

Ab-Soul-Moonshooter-1663334222

Ab-Soul - Moonshooter

“Moonshooter” is the second single released this year by the LA native, and it confirms to the world that he still has what it takes to create great hip-hop songs. It’s still unclear if he has an album planned soon, but as the song “Hollandaise” did back in April, this track stands on its own as a great solo single. Ab-Soul sounds like he has a lot of things to say, which would be normal after almost 6 years without an album release.

SiR - Nothing Even Matters

With this third single release of the year, it’s about time to announce a new album for the TDE artist. While the wait continues, “Nothing Even Matters” is a fun and contagious love song about a relationship that just makes everything else take the backseat. SiR is vocally sharp on a SamTrax-produced beat, with a strong performance on the hook.

REASON - Sign Language (feat. ICECOLDBISHOP)

For rap purists, “Sign Language” is an absolute gem as the two skilled rappers REASON and ICECOLDBISHOP trade bars flawlessly. In the 2-minute runtime, the song lets them experiment with different flows and cadences. They complement each other very well vocally as the TDE member sounds deeper than his peer, and the beat switches casually from section to section to match the delivery of both artists.

Merkules, Conway the Machine & C-Lance - DNA

Merkules is not slowing down, releasing another great single with the help of Conway and C-Lance. The Canadian artist lets his heart speak on subjects like coping with fame and the difficulties of staying true to his passion. He sounds sharp as ever on a calm instrumental that lets his lyrics do the heavy lifting. No stranger to piano loops, Conway is comfortable and straight to the point with a quick verse in the middle of the track.

Released 16/09/2022

C Dot Castro - Ja Morant

The BobbyBoy Records artist releases an easy banger that is a good starting point for fans of Logic that want to discover his label recruit. C Dot Castro can rap quickly and be very lyrical, but he takes a laid-back approach to this bouncing trap production.
