DJ Khaled - GOD DID (feat. Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, JAY-Z & John Legend)
The Miami producer, beatmaker, entrepreneur, and social media personality is back to close the summer with one of his best albums in years. The title song of the project “GOD DID” features his very frequent collaborators Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, John Legend, and JAY-Z. The latter is in rare form as he delivers a 4-minute verse full of wisdom and cultural references. The instrumental sounds grandiose, setting the stage for the rap veterans to reflect and remind everybody why they manage to stay relevant after so many years.

YG - Toxic
Gearing up for his next studio album “I Got Issues”, set to drop in September, YG releases an R&B masterpiece with “Toxic”. It heavily samples the song “Be Happy” by Mary J. Blige, using it for the intro and the hook. The Compton native raps about a difficult love relationship, making parallels with self-love and the complexity of loving somebody else. It blends in perfectly with the sample, giving the song a nostalgic vibe while staying fresh for a 2022 release.

JID - Sistanem
The wait for JID’s highly anticipated next studio album is finally over. “The Forever Story” features some incredible performances, especially on the very well produced track “Sistanem”. James Blake and Yuli provide some beautiful vocal harmonies, letting JID shine as he raps about family issues and his personal growth. The Dreamville member makes it clear that he isn’t just another artist who can rap well, he’s also capable of using his storytelling abilities to showcase deep introspection.

IDK - W13 Single
Technically released as a duo of new singles, “W13” finds IDK continuing to develop artistically. He sings beautifully on “Drive”, communicating strong emotions of gratitude and happiness. The instrumental contains hot acoustic guitars, a sweet flute loop, and vocal harmonies that should put to shame any rapper using the same generic beats over and over. With “Free Slime”, the Maryland native steps back into a hip-hop mood while staying harmonic with every bar.

KAYTRANADA & Anderson .Paak - Twin Flame
Kaytranada, the Grammy-winning artist from Montreal, is back with a new single featuring Anderson .Paak. This dance song has a classic-sounding beat with the producer’s signature kicks banging from start to finish. Anderson .Paak is true to himself, with a great performance and contagious energy. It’s not the first time that the two artists collaborate, and hopefully, their undeniable chemistry can continue to grow in the future.

Big K.R.I.T. - Extra Credit
Included in the new Madden video game, this energetic single by Big K.R.I.T. will please his loyal fan base that might have wanted more rapping from his February album release “Digital Roses Don’t Die”. As if he was in a football stadium, the Mississippi native sounds at ease playing the hype-man. The hook is engaging with back-and-forth shouting and the verses will put anybody in the mood to get the job done.

Tyga, Jhené Aiko & Pop Smoke - Sunshine
Recruiting Jhené Aiko for the chorus and Pop Smoke for a posthumous verse, Tyga keeps on releasing radio-friendly singles for the summer vibes. His verse is simple and quick, letting Jhené carry most of the song with a catchy melody about love. The verse by Pop Smoke doesn’t add much, but it brings a nice balance of tone in the featured voices, the New-York artist sounding very deep compared to Tyga and Jhené.

Eminem & 50 Cent - Is This Love (’09)
The legendary rapper from Detroit released Curtain Call 2, a compilation of his best work since 2009’s “Relapse” album. With it came some new or unreleased singles, like the excellent “Is This Love” with 50 Cent. The hook is reminiscent of the era when Eminem was singing and rapping a particular way, creating awkward melodies that seem to still sound good after 13 years.

Issa Gold - Grease
Half of the very talented duo The Underachievers, Issa Gold has proven capable of rapping about deep subjects like depression and addiction, but on “Grease” he’s also able to have fun and let loose. The New York native released this single with no clear intention of another solo album, but it can hold its own as an entertaining trap song with a simple hook and a hard beat.

Ray Vaughn & Isaiah Rashad - Dawg House
Fresh off touring together, Isaiah Rashad and Ray Vaughn release this easy and straight-to-the-point banger. Both artists flawlessly float on this southern, bass-heavy beat featuring a menacing piano loop. The chemistry between these two TDE artists is promising, especially if their relationship leads to more great music like “Dawg House”.
