Kendrick Lamar - The Heart Part 5
Keeping the tradition alive, Kendrick Lamar drops the incredible song “The Heart Part 5” to announce and hype the release of his sixth album with TDE: “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers”. The song deserves to be listened to with its accompanying video to truly be understood as the Compton emcee effortlessly switches perspectives throughout the song. From start to finish, he raps from the views of Nipsey Hussle, Kanye West, and many others as the groovy instrumental makes good use of a well-chosen Marvin Gaye sample. Kendrick spits fearlessly with rapid flows and deep lyrics that may take many listens to fully grasp, especially for a casual listener. The single is the perfect starting point for anybody going to tune in to his new double LP.

A$AP Rocky - D.M.B.
Released in the middle of a media storm concerning his legal problems and his newborn baby with Rihanna, the timing couldn’t be better for Rocky to return musically. With all eyes on him, the A$AP Mob leader sounds fresh and ready for greatness as he creates something truly unique. It starts off with a classic hip-hop vibe with 808s, samples, braggadocios lyrics, and a hook about his love for his baby mama. It then evolves into a musical mix that not many artists can pull off, as he sings over a smooth alternative beat with beautiful harmonies.

Zach Zoya - Smoke & Dance
Montreal’s own superstar Zach Zoya is gearing up for the release of his new album “No Love Is Ever Wasted” set to be released in June. “Smoke & Dance” is the fifth single off the 8-song project (a very modern approach in the streaming industry) and it takes the energy higher than the previous releases with a rapid tempo and intense drums. His delivery is emotional during the hook then it gets low-key in the verses when he sets the mood for the dance floor to turn up. It may not get the mainstream coverage it deserves because of the lyrical content, but it sure does make a great song for any party to… smoke and dance.

Logic - Therapy Music (feat. Russ)
“Therapy Music” is the third single off the Maryland artist’s next album “Vinyl Days” after the release of “Tetris / Decades” back in April. Marking their first collaboration ever, Logic recruits Russ for a lyrical check for anyone questioning their hip-hop qualities. They both sound at ease on this simple, but deep instrumental produced by Bobby’s friend and frequent collaborator: 6ix. Apart from feeling dramatic at times, the lyrics also come off as clever and thoughtful as many of the punchlines sound just right for anyone willing to analyze the rhyming patterns.

SiR - Satisfaction
The brilliant TDE artist SiR is back with a new single that will please his die-hard fans and help new ones discover what he’s all about. The beat selection and his overall delivery are nothing groundbreaking for the Inglewood native, but it’s very well executed in a short runtime of two minutes. The exotic strings and the smooth background vocals set the mood for a slow and sensual ballad about love. SiR has been fairly quiet since his last album “Chasing Summer”, dropped in 2019, so hopefully “Satisfaction” will lead to more music from this talented artist.

Juicy J & Duke Deuce - Step Back
Here is another easy banger from the Memphis legend Juicy J. The Three 6 Mafia member teams up with the rising rapper Duke Deuce for a straight-up song about feeling yourself and enjoying the attention from your haters. The music is produced by LilJuMadeDaBeat, a frequent Megan Thee Stallion collaborator that blends in perfectly with Juicy J’s sound and vibe. The kicks and the snares line up to give a southern bounce that resembles many of the same sounds that Juicy has been using for years in his own production. Duke Deuce is a nice addition as his flows differ from his veteran counterpart.

Col3trane - Ok (feat. Flatbush Zombies)
The English and American artist Col3trane delivers a great album “Lush Life” that is packed with some hidden gems like the song “Ok” with New York’s own Flatbush Zombies. It’s a classic love ballad about relationships and the effect they can have on anybody under their spell. Fans of the Flatbush collective will find the three rappers on a slower rhythm than usual with Erick The Architect, Meechy Darko and Zombie Juice all laying down quality verses that feel personal and true. Col3trane simply performs the hooks to make it all stick together beautifully.

Snoop Dogg - Touch Away (feat. October London)
Consistent as ever, Snoop Dogg keeps on creating the best West Coast songs to roll around with the windows down on a hot summer day. With the help of October London on the hook, he creates a smooth track filled with synth basses, bells and vocal harmonies that transport you into a problem-free place full of happiness. On the lyrical side, the hip-hop veteran keeps things simple with bars about his comfortable place in the music industry and rolling backwoods all day.

The Notorious B.I.G. - G.O.A.T. (feat. Ty Dolla $ign & Bella Alubo)
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the late rapper’s birthday, “G.O.A.T.” is a new release from the estate managing Biggies’s legacy. His verses are now more than 20 years old, yet his distinctive voice still feels fresh in a hip-hop scene that is filled with artists influenced by his sound. For any old school rap purist, the beat selection will make them want to rip off their ears off as many elements of pop are mixed together to reach a wider audience. Even though it’s obvious, this mainstream appeal is necessary to bring back the spotlight on a legend that many young listeners may not even know the existence of.

Deante’ Hitchcock - All My Children
The Atlanta native Deante’ Hitchcock releases one of the most inspiring songs in the past months. With an impressive emotional delivery that is hard not to listen to attentively, he lets no stone unturned with 3 minutes full of bars about his fears and aspirations as a human being, a father and a successful rising artist. The background violins and electric piano blend in perfectly to give an inspiring soundtrack to his poetry. Released in the double single format under the name of “Callin’ All My Children”, the other single “Callin’ (feat. Big K.R.I.T. & WESTSIDE BOOGIE)” is also worth a good listen, making this a great release from an artist that still has a lot to give.
